Frequently Asked Questions

What is an advanced screening? Before a movie is released to the general public, many times the movie studio will offer advanced screenings for research and promotional purposes. These advanced screenings are free and usually targeted towards specific people and areas.
What if all the screenings are currently sold out? When tickets become available, they can sometimes go quickly. In order to increase your chances FilmMetro recommends signing up for the weekly newsletter and checking back on a regular basis.
Does a ticket guarantee my admittance? No. Advanced screenings are always overbooked to ensure the theater is full. A general rule would be to arrive at least one hour before the screening. However, if the film is very popular, you should plan to arrive sooner.
How do I know where the screening will take place? The location of the screening area will be displayed on the ticket you download. If there are any special instructions regarding the screening, they will appear on the ticket.
What time should I arrive? FilmMetro recommends arriving at least one hour before the beginning of the screening. No one will be admitted after the screening has begun. If the film is very popular, please plan to arrive earlier than one hour.
Where should I go when I arrive at the theater? When you arrive at the location, a line should be set up for the screening. Check with the theater manager or employees and let them know which screening you're here to attend. It's also good to check to make sure you are standing in the correct line.
Will there be security at the screening? Due to the increasing threat of piracy, all advanced screenings will have security. All bags are subject to being searched, and no recording devices will be allowed into the theater. This includes camera phones, voice recorders, and PDA's with cameras.
What if the screening is full and I don't get in? Don't let the experience of not getting in ruin your night. Have a secondary plan of action like dinner or pick another movie to see if this one is full.
Are group tickets available to the screenings? Group request are available for screenings and very likely if your group fits a similar demographic as the film. Group requests will only be answered if the studio wishes to provide your group with tickets. Request group tickets for a movie.

What is the difference between a Movie Screening and a World Premiere? There are several different types of Movie Screenings.

1) Research Screenings - These are usually done to an audience that fits a target demographic. The audience is usually asked questions at the end and sometimes asked to fill out a questionnaire. Sometimes you can be paid to attend or given an incentive, but it is not common.

2) Press Screenings - These are movie screenings where members of the Press (TV, Radio, Newspapers, and Websites) come to view the movie before they write a review. Often there will be extra seats to these screenings which are made available to the general public through FilmMetro. The press will always have a reserved seat at these screenings. So if there appear to be a large amount of seats roped off and you are asked to sit in another area, this is a Press Screening.

3) Promotional Screenings or Word Of Mouth Screenings - These are screenings that are shown to help build buzz around a movie. Tickets are usually given away through contests, sweepstakes, or to specific groups. For example, if its a movie about Soccer, the Studio will try to locate soccer clubs, stores, and websites that can promote the movie in exchange for screening tickets.

4) World Premiere - This event is planned to generate publicity for for the movie. The event usually has a red carpet and many of the movie stars will attend, do some interviews with press and have their pictures taken for magazines and newspapers. Many times, there will be extra seats at world premieres and FilmMetro will provide them to its members. People who attend world premieres often have great stories about how they sat next to someone in the movie or were able to shake hands with their favorite stars.
Do you have movie screenings outside of Los Angeles? Yes. FilmMetro currently has movie screenings in San Francisco and Chicago. We are working hard towards providing more events across the country, but have opened up the Screening Locator to help track down screenings in other areas. Its a tricky process to get screening tickets, but the more our members show interest in a movie, the higher the likelihood that we'll get a screening for that area. We love providing free movie screenings tickets and appreciate your patience as we grow.
